Learning Resources:

We are here to help you become a better student. All Learning Centres are staffed by enthusiastic and knowledgeable learning resource officers and we will be happy to give you help and advice. We have many years of experience and are constantly keeping up to date with changes in the education and information worlds. If you need assistance or cannot find what you are looking for, do not hesitate to come to us and we will be happy to help.

Digital Media

Our Digital Media service caters for all your audiovisual and multimedia needs, whether you’re a tutor or a student. Enjoy the benefits that the latest technology can bring. Whether it’s a data projector for a presentation, a video camera for some coursework, a DVD recording of a Freeview programme, or some filming and digital editing – we’ve got the equipment and the expertise to enhance your learning experience. We’re happy to advise if you’re unsure of the most suitable equipment for your needs, and full training is available. Our services and equipment can be booked at any of our Learning Centres, and some portable equipment can also be taken off campus. So don’t delay, start enjoying the benefits of Digital Media today.

Are you fed up wasting time trawling through millions of hits on the web for the right information? Learning Resources provides the easy solution by paying annual subscriptions to allow you to access the most authoritative, reliable and relevant services on the web. You can search the content of thousands of journals and reports to find articles, statistics, and images on a particular topic, and newspaper databases containing full-text articles. All of our electronic resources can be accessed via the Learning Resources web pages ( http://library.west-cheshire.ac.uk ) and many are also available 24/7 from home. Just contact us at any of our Learning Centres and we can set you up with an account for off-campus use. There is a world of reliable and relevant information available to you – just ask us to help you find the best resources for your studies.

Fronter is our college Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is like an online building, representing your actual college. To access your own classroom, use your unique password which allows you to work with classmates, exchange information and share ideas. Your tutor will add schemes of work, presentations, demo DVDs and other information that you can access in your own time.

You will also be able to upload files so that you can submit work online. It’s like having your tutor in the computer….

Supporting you...

We are able to provide offer IT help, providing support and guidance to ensure you are well equipped with the skills you need to progress through your studies and beyond.

We also run our Springboard programme of workshops available throughout the year and on demand by your tutor, specifically tailored to your course. Sessions include Information & Research Skills, Successful Essay Writing, Referencing, Presentation Skills, Building a CV and Interview Techniques. So if you want your assignments to shine, and to stand out from the rest in the job market, jump on the Springboard. It’s your passport to success.

Library

You can borrow fiction books, videos, DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs and journals in addition to your text book allowance. There is no charge for borrowing items from the Learning Centre and most books are issued for four weeks. Most multi-media items are issued for one week.

You can use the library catalogue to search for the item you are looking for. You can borrow and return books at any College Learning Centre. We do charge fines – most items are charged at 5p for each day they are overdue. We will renew borrowed items twice if no-one else is waiting for them, but if you build up £1 worth of fines, you won’t be able to borrow any items until you pay up.

We have PCs in all our Learning Centres and we also have laptops for you to borrow on campus. This is a free service where all you need is your library card. Printers are located around each Learning Centre. Paper for printing is charged at 20p for 10 sheets. Colour Printing is available and costs 25p per full A4 sheet.

Our stock of stationery for sale is expanding! We have a great selection of items for sale as we order items for stock that are in demand. These include blank CDs and DVDs, presentation wallets, highlighters, paper for the printers and pen drives (USB sticks). Our prices are competitive and we are happy to take suggestions for sales. Good presentation always helps to show off your work in a more professional manner.

The Library Catalogue is available online 24/7 via the Learning Resources web pages (http://library.west-cheshire.ac.uk). The catalogue contains records of resources available for you to borrow from our Learning Centres. This includes books, journals, language packs, DVDs, and you will also find links to online e-books. Whether you are on campus, or at home, search online for any resources for your course, or even a fiction book or DVD for your leisure time. If you are unsure how to search the catalogue or you are having trouble finding what you need, ask at one of our Issue Desks. If the item you require is on loan, or based at one of our other Learning Centres, speak to a member of our staff and they will be more than happy to place a reservation for you. This service is n reserve an item for you free of charge if it is on loan or held at another site.

Once the item arrives at your regular site, you will receive a letter informing you that it is available for collection. There will never be a reason to go without the resources you need for your course. If we’ve got it......it’s in the catalogue.
