Can I borrow a magazine from the learning centre?
All our journals can be borrowed, both current issues and back issues.
Can I bring my own paper to use in the printer?
You can. Please bring the paper to the issue desk so we can check it is suitable before use. It is important to remember that file paper will jam the printer so we ask you not to use it.
Can I buy pen drives and paper?
Yes. We sell 2gb pen drives (memory sticks) for £7.50 each. Paper costs 20p for 10 sheets. These are available from the Learning Centre Issue Desks at all sites.
Can I connect to library resources from off campus?
Yes you can - we have a wide range of electronic resources available to West Cheshire College students. If you wish to access them from home please enter your college login and password when asked. If you have any problems please email us at library@west-cheshire.ac.uk, or telephone 01244 670574.
How do I make suggestions for new books for the library?
Tutors can bring requests to the issue desk or contact their relevant subject librarian. Students can also submit requests at the Learning Centre issue desk.
How do I use the photocopier and how much does it cost?
You will need to collect a photocopy card from the Learning Centre Issue Desk. You can charge this card up with a £1 coin which will give 20 copies. The card can be kept throughout the year for copying and returned to us when you have finished using it.

How many times can I renew my books?
Unless others are waiting for items you have on loan, you can renew them personally at any Learning Centre, by telephone, or by e-mail to library@west-cheshire.ac.uk
You cannot renew them online. Normal loan items can be renewed up to a maximum of 2 times, if another reader has not requested the item. Overnight loans and some other material cannot be renewed.
I enrolled late and missed the class induction. How do I find out about what there is on my subject and how to use the computers?
Late induction - there are usually several people who miss inductions. The LC will put on what we call "mop-up" inductions. Times and dates for these will be publicised. Otherwise, please ask at the issue desk and the library staff will arrange for you to receive the information you need.
I've been sent a letter saying that I owe fines. I can't afford to pay at the moment. What do I do?
When your fines are over £2, you will be unable to borrow until the fine is cleared or reduced. If there is a genuine reason why you are unable to pay a fine completely, you can arrange to pay off the fine at an agreed amount every week. Fines are not set to raise money and we don't want to make your learning difficult. We charge fines to encourage return of material so that everyone has access to learning material.
My login won't work - can you help?
If you are in the Learning Centre, any member of staff will be able to help you. Please remember your library card whenever you visit. If you are not in the Learning Centre, remember that your username and password are case sensitive.

What do I do if I can't find the book I'm looking for?
Ask at the issue desk - we can check the catalogue and our returns to see if the book is in stock. If the item is on loan or at another site, it can be reserved free of charge for collection.
What do I need to borrow books, and how long can I keep them?
You will need to bring your library card, which is issued to you at the start of your course when you attend a library induction. Books are clearly labelled for their issue period: 1 week or 4 weeks and will be date stamped on issue.
What if I lose my library card?
You can get a replacement library card from the issue desk at a charge of £1.00.
Where can I do colour printing?
Please save your work onto a pen drive and then go to the information point - we can print off your work in colour at a cost of 25p (students) per A4 sheet.
